WEAPON
started life on a 32 date tour with MOTORHEAD and the release of their single 'Set the Stage Alight' which reached N0. 2 in the Rock Metal charts.Born from the ashes of 'Fast Relief' incorporating Irish vocalist Danny Hynes with Baz Downes on bass, both formerly of 'Snatch' and complimented by Bruce Bisland (now with Andy Scott's Sweet) and Jeff Summers on guitar, WEAPON went on to sign with Virgin Music Publishing. The line up remained unchanged until Bruce's full time commitment to 'The Sweet' and illness has prevented Baz from performing live. They both give their full blessing for continued success.
Worthy replacements are bassist Gavin Cooper (Paul Di'Anno's BattleZone Killers) and Ian Sweeting (The Risen/Stone Katz) on drums.
Danny Hynes - Vocals
Dublin born singer Danny started his career back in the 70's after his move to the U.K. where he settled in Birmingham. Playing the pub/club circuit around the Midlands with 'The Heavy Grass Band' and 'Sister Dora', a band that also played the US bases in Germany. In the late 70's he headed for the bright lights of London where fame & fortune beckoned! After a few stints with different bands and going nowhere fast, he teamed up with Jeff in March 1980 to form Weapon.
Following the Weapon 'sabbatical', he went on the form the 'glamorous' Paddy Goes To Holyhead, a band that has in the past and still features some of the cream of British rock including, Andy Scott & Mick Tucker, Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) and
Keith Boyce (Heavy Metal Kids) to name but just a few…
Jeff Summers - Guitar/Vocals
Jeff's career began in the mid seventies playing with various London based rock cover's bands going by dubious names like: "Flex" and "Fast Relief" the latter band had seen him pen the seminal "Set the Stage Alight" a future NWOBHM classic.Weapon was born out of the ashes of Fast Relief.
Jeff's other bands include:
A stint, alongside Danny, in Paddy Goes To Holyhead.
Wildfire, featuring original Iron maiden vocalist, Paul Mario Day
Statetrooper, alongside Gary Barden (MSG) and former Thin Lizzy guitarist, Brian Robertson.
And his 'fun' band The Loudshirts..
Gavin Cooper - Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
Gavin was born on the 6th November 1967 in Carshalton, Surrey. He grew up listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who and later on to Kiss and Van Halen. It was these bands that turned Gavin onto picking up the guitar at 14 years of age which led to him picking up the bass at 16 to form his own band Sentinel, performing original material on the local circuit and supporting the likes of Angel Witch. In 1991 Gavin was asked to join forces with ex-Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno who needed songs and a line up for the band Killers and their debut album 'Murder One', one of his strongest to date. Gavin toured extensively with Killers promoting this album on a world tour taking in all territories including Europe, Japan and the USA.
Gavin has also played alongside Di'Anno in Battlezone before working with Lionsheart, Statetrooper (featuring Gary Barden MSG) and Bob Catley (Magnum) solo work, to name but just a few, before joining Weapon in 2009 replacing original Bass player Baz Downes, who unfortunately is too ill to tour.
Ian Sweeting - Drums
Ian was born in Isleworth, Middlesex on 1st November 1970. Growing up listening to bands like Led Zep, The Who, Dream Theatre, Montrose, Van Halen and Rush inspired him to play drums.
